A Bainbridge mass spectrometer is used to measure the ratio of two isotopes He3 and He4 in a Helium dilution refrigerator.  The spectrometer is operated with an electric field strength 100 V cm-1 and a magnetic field strength 0.2 T.
a. What is the speed of the ion that can pass through the velocity filter?
b. If the velocity-filter exit slit were 1 mm wide, can this machine resolve the two isotopes?
